Vegas Plans

Steve and I are planning a long weekend stay in Vegas at the end of the month.  We are not big gamblers nor have we ever been into the nightclub scene so the first time we went to Las Vegas 10+ years ago, we were not impressed.  Over the years, we have been to Vegas a few times for weddings, work conferences and just for fun and it’s really grown on me.  We’ve found that Vegas has a lot more to offer than skeezy casinos and douchey drunken pool parties.  You can stay at a really nice hotel for a reasonable price and it has world class restaurants, spas and amenities without breaking the bank.

It’s going to be hot as blazes out there.  Here is a snip of the weather next week.

Just a wee bit on the the warm side

Uh, yea, that’s hot. Day one will probably be staying inside and walking around the hotel and perhaps a little shopping.  The next day we will get up early for the pool and snag a spot in the shade and probably go in around lunchtime or shortly thereafter when the heat gets to be too much.  We also have a 1/2 day planned at the spa on Sunday at the Encore Spa.

Dinner in Vegas a few years ago – I usually have good hair in Vegas thanks to the dry air.  I’m planning to get a blowout before dinner our first night

We are staying at the Wynn Hotel for the first time and I am excited to try it out.  I have previously stayed at The Paris, Mandalay Bay, the Venetian and Caesar’s Palace. Personally, I found The Paris to be pretty cheesy in terms of decor and Caesar’s and the Venetian are always so bloody crowded! Mandalay Bay is nice but it’s at the far end of the Strip. Every time I find myself heading to the Wynn to hang out which is much more peaceful and elegant (well, as elegant as you can get in Vegas).

We’ve also got some good restaurants lined up.  Dinner our first night will be at Wolfgang Puck’s CUT Steakhouse in the Palazzo, Hakkasan at the MGM Grand our second night and our last night dinner will be at Sinatra Restaurant in the Encore.  Steve definitely wants to get a really good burger one day so we may head to the Burger Bar in Mandalay Bay or Holstein’s for that.  I’m sure we’ll have lunch by the pool one day as well.

Other than that, we thought we might check out the Fremont Street area one evening if we get motivated enough to leave the Strip.  Any other must dos?

  1. You’ve certainly got a great long weekend planned Melissa! I went for my 30th a few years ago and we stayed at Caesar’s Palace which was fun…I’ve always been tempted by the Wynn and the Venetian so I look forward to reading about your stay at the Wynn!

    1. Yes – I plan to write all about my Wynn stay with lots of pictures so stop back by! I’ve never seen the rooms there and we booked a panoramic view room. Hope it lives up to expectations!
