First Post on the New Site – Introductions are in Order!

First Post on the new blog site!  I used to blog a few years back but simply fell out of the habit as work and other commitments got in the way.  However, we (Melissa and Steve) have never stopped traveling and I realized how much I enjoyed having a place to share our travel stories and store our photos and memories.  I live and work in Dallas, Texas with my husband of almost 15 years and our little Scottish Terrier dog, Miss Begbie.

Steve and I in Capri, Italy 2016
We usually take 2 or 3 vacations a year but squeeze in a couple of long weekend trips as well to break up the year. I find that it helps to have something on the horizon to look forward to throughout the year.  Being that we are now “of a certain age” meaning that we are no longer in our twenties, we are not up for backpacking, hosteling, sleeping on benches or sharing bathrooms though we are willing to get out of our comfort zone for an adventure, including staying in a safari tent in Africa or getting stung by jellyfish in the Virgin Islands.  We’ll splurge for great experiences, private tours, boat rides, etc… but always try to stay within our means and be responsible at the same time. So, we tend to mix up high end and mid-range travel.

While I may use a travel agent on occasion to help book trips, I almost always do all of my own research, planning and booking so I spend hours scouring the internet for information regarding hotels, flights and destinations.  Steve is pretty much along for the ride but he’s always a good sport (unless hangry) and he’s game for just about anything. Our recent travels in 2016 have taken us to Italy (Rome, Naples, Positano and Capri), Santa Fe, NM, and New York.  Our upcoming trips for 2016 include Austin, TX, Napa Valley, New York and Antigua.  In April 2017 we will be taking another bucket list trip to French Polynesia to celebrate our 15 year wedding anniversary.
