Steve and I did a quick 3-day weekend to Mexico over the July 4th holiday. As usual, we spent it at our favorite hotel in the area, the Viceroy. We love this hotel because it’s about 30-40 minutes south of Cancun in a quiet area and the hotel is also adults only so it’s always peaceful and relaxing.
We booked our same room, #40, which we like because it’s at the very back of the property so it’s very private. Yes, it’s a longer walk to the beach, main pool and restaurants but that’s our daily exercise! We love that all the rooms have private plunge pools, indoor and outdoor showers and large covered patios with daybeds and a hammock for lounging.
We also love their main pool, where you get great service and the pool guys come around with treats like pineapple sorbet, frozen fruit on a stick, samples of cocktails and will even clean your sunglasses. Our usual day was to head down to breakfast around 8:30am and then get setup by the pool with some loungers and umbrella. We spent our days swimming, napping and reading books. After lunch at the beachside restaurant, we’d usually order some beer or white wine to the room and hang at our private pool before showering up for dinner. Dinner can be had in the fancy upstairs restaurant or at the beachside restaurant where they have different themes each night. Our favorite nights are the beachside barbeque and the surf & turf night.
With only three days, we did very little but chill out and relax and spend quality time together. We slept in every day and got massages at the hotel spa on our last morning, which were sorely needed. Living in Dallas, this is a quick 2 hour flight for us and I got an amazing low season all-inclusive deal. (Low season is generally May through November 1, which is also hurricane season….it’s typically humid and hot). Our package included our room and all meals and drinks included (even premium alcohol), plus private transportation from the airport for only $465 per night for two. The only downside is that this is the time of year when sargassum seaweed blooms and there was a ton of it along the coastline, making the beach unusable so we opted for pool time only. However, at that price, it was worth it and we loved this quiet and easy-going getaway.
Got some serious wanderlust going on here! I’ve not [yet] been to Mexico, but this looks heavenly!

I highly recommend Mexico! We also loved Puerto Vallarta on the Pacific side.
